Two-day course for schools and education
A supportive, in‑depth course for school teams working with pupils who may experience low‑to‑medium levels of distress, including those in mainstream, SEND and alternative provision settings.
This two‑day course offers a comprehensive approach to understanding and responding to behaviours of concern. Staff explore person‑centred, trauma‑informed practice and learn how to support pupils in ways that protect dignity, reduce distress and strengthen relationships.
What does the course cover?
- Trauma‑informed understanding of distress and unmet needs
- Early, relational prevention strategies
- Identifying the stages of behaviour escalation and responding safely at each point
- Supporting pupils with SEND, sensory needs or communication differences
- Understanding the risks and limitations of restrictive practices
- Relevant education legislation, including reasonable force and safeguarding expectations
- Ethical disengagement techniques and safe stance‑to‑escort skills
- Reflective practice to help staff feel steadier and more supported
- Post‑incident debriefing that helps staff and pupils process what happened, reduce future distress and rebuild trust
Participants complete a short multiple‑choice assessment and practical demonstrations of physical‑release techniques to ensure confidence and safety.
